My recent visit to Greece offered valuable insights into a market that is rapidly embracing sustainable packaging. During the visit, I had the opportunity to meet a prominent customer in Athens, along with one of the country’s largest paper converters. The discussions were productive and reaffirmed the strong potential for Pakka in this region.
A key takeaway was the upcoming regulation that mandates all food-grade paper to be PFAS-free from 12 August. While this presents a challenge for the industry, it also creates an opportunity. Our trials are already underway, and a successful outcome could open the doors to a significant new market for Pakka.
Perhaps the most striking insight, however, was the consumer mindset. Across Greece, paper bags have become the preferred choice, while polythene has largely taken a backseat. It is a clear reflection of how regulations, customer awareness, and sustainability can come together to reshape an entire market.
As the world moves towards safer and more sustainable packaging solutions, our focus must remain on staying ahead of change—not simply responding to it. Markets like Greece remind us that the future belongs to those who are prepared for it.
