At PM3, high oil temperature was becoming a recurring concern due to reduced cooling water flow and scaling inside the heat exchanger (HE). This was directly impacting heat transfer efficiency and increasing the risk of machine breakdowns and unplanned stoppages.
Dharmendra Maurya from MSS Sangh identified the root cause and introduced a structured de-scaling arrangement. Earlier, the system had no provision for online or controlled cleaning, leading to performance drops and frequent interruptions.
A dedicated de-scaling setup was implemented using a screw pump and tank integrated with a cleaning agent circulation system. This enabled effective removal of scale deposits from the HE, restoring proper heat exchange and maintaining consistent oil temperature.
Post implementation, the system showed stable thermal performance with normalized oil temperature and zero breakdowns related to this issue. The machine continued running without stoppages, improving overall reliability and operational efficiency.
This Kaizen highlights how a technically sound intervention in process maintenance can significantly enhance equipment performance and prevent downtime.
